2048 run backwards. Merging is the threat, and your gun is the only thing fighting it.
Every rock carries a number. Shoot one and it splits into two halves — a 32 becomes two 16s. Only a 2 dies when you shoot it, and only a dead 2 scores. So everything on the field has to be ground all the way down.
Two equal numbers that collide hard enough merge into double. Left alone the field consolidates upward on its own, and every merge comes out faster than what went into it. Standing still is not neutral — it is losing slowly.
Your gun is also the problem. Splitting doubles the rock count and flings the halves apart, and a crowded fast field is exactly what merges. MASS is the run: it never falls except when a 2 dies, and no amount of shooting reduces it.
Thrust pushes rocks. Your exhaust shoves whatever is behind you — hard on small rocks, barely at all on heavy ones. Use it to pull a pair apart before it merges, or to drive one into another on purpose.
At 128 a rock becomes a CRUSHER. Bullets do nothing to it, ever. The only thing that removes one is another crusher, hit hard enough — two of them annihilate.
The census beside the board counts what is loose by value. Red means two or more of that number are out there, which is a merge waiting to happen.
